What you have
Already works.

We build on Home Assistant — the open platform that supports thousands of brands. If you already own a Sonos, a Lutron, a Reolink, a UniFi, it joins the system on day one. For the rest, here’s what works, how, and what we recommend.

01 · Cameras & video
  • Reolink
Local. Officially partnered with Home Assistant.
  • Ubiquiti UniFi Protect
Local. The recorder runs on your network.
  • Axis
Local. Professional IP cameras via ONVIF.
  • Hikvision · Dahua · Amcrest
    Local. Standard ONVIF protocol.
  • Frigate
Local. Open-source AI vision for any RTSP camera, with optional ONVIF for PTZ.
  • Doorbird
Live video, ring and motion events stream straight to Home Assistant on your LAN.
  • Synology Surveillance Station
Local. Pro-grade NVR running on a Synology NAS you already own.
  • Ring
Cloud-only via Amazon. No two-way audio in Home Assistant. Recordings and snapshots require a Ring Protect plan, and live view has been unreliable since late 2025.
Local alternative: UniFi Protect or Reolink for fully local surveillance.
  • Google Nest
Cloud-only via Google’s Smart Device Management API. Requires a one-time US$5 developer fee and a Google Cloud Pub/Sub setup.
Local alternative: Any ONVIF camera with Frigate.
  • Netatmo
Mixed. French design sold in Apple Stores. Cameras and video doorbell work through Netatmo’s cloud.
  • Arlo · Eufy
Cloud-dependent. Cameras stop working when the vendor’s servers do, and integrations rely on community add-ons that can break with any vendor update.
Local alternative: Reolink or UniFi Protect.

    Local. Reference-grade whole-home control.

Even what’s not listed, works.

Most of what we install is one of four standards under the hood. Pick a device from any of these and it joins the system, locally.

Matter

The new cross-brand standard backed by Apple, Google, Amazon and Samsung. Anything labelled “Works With Matter” joins the system locally.

Thread

The low-power wireless mesh that Matter runs on. Used by locks, sensors, lights.

Z-Wave

The mature pro-grade standard. ~5,000 certified devices, all local. Locks, dimmers, sensors.

Zigbee

Lightweight wireless mesh. Used by Hue, Aqara, IKEA, Philips.
